4 Easy Ways to Read More Books (Starting Today!)

Posted on September 6, 2021

It’s National Read a Book Day, but if you’re like most bookworms, every day is Read a Book Day! Or maybe you wish you read more books, but for some reason just can’t seem to make progress on your to-be-read (aka “TBR") list. Wherever you’re at in your reading habit, here are four ways to read more books—starting today!

1. Schedule time to read.

It’s hard to find time for anything unless we schedule it. So, make an “appointment” with a book in your daily planner! Even if it’s just 10 minutes per day, you’ll be surprised at how many more books you read than if you wait for larger chunks of time to binge-read.

2. Take your reads to-go.

Whether it’s a paperback in your purse, an audiobook in your car, or an e-book on your phone, there are plenty of ways to read more books throughout your busy day. Listen while running errands or finish a chapter while waiting for an appointment.

3. Read different genres.

Even when you find time to read, you might not always be in the mood for that ginormous biography you’re slogging through. Instead, keep your interest engaged by reading books from a couple of different genres simultaneously. Just make sure the books you choose are different enough so you don’t confuse them! For example, it might be hard to separate fact from fiction if you’re reading both a WWII novel and a biography about Winston Churchill at the same time.

4. Join a book club.

Don’t overestimate the power of accountability to motivate you to read more! Plus, it’s more fun to read a book if you know others who are reading it too. Nowadays, there are plenty of online and virtual options for book clubs, so it’s easier than ever to find one that works for you and your schedule. Better yet, invite some friends and start your own book club!

Whether you try one or all four of these tips, any increase in your reading habit is an achievement worth celebrating. And if you need more motivation, make sure you’re signed up for the My Reader Rewards Club so you can complete fun activities to earn points redeemable for free books!
